Prepared for Krema — Reserve Bank of Australia, H.C. Coombs Centre

Elevating the H.C. Coombs Centre Guest Experience

A fully-staffed specialty coffee bar for the Reserve Bank's Kirribilli conference and training campus — built to sit alongside Krema's automatic machine program and match the standard of the delegates, officials and RBA teams who pass through it every day.

The Opportunity

A Standard Befitting Every Visitor

The H.C. Coombs Centre is the Reserve Bank's Kirribilli campus for conferences, training and official visits — a working environment where RBA staff, government delegations and corporate guests sit down together, often several times a week. The coffee experience on site should read the same way the harbour view does: considered, and a level above what the same face gets used to walking past on a city street.

Coffee on Cue proposes a fully-staffed specialty bar to complement Krema's automatic machine program — a dedicated barista service for the moments that call for it, alongside the everyday convenience Krema already delivers. It's the same division of labour that works well elsewhere: automatic machines cover volume and always-on access, a staffed bar covers the occasions where quality and hospitality carry the room.

Modelled on 1,200 PAX and 300 cups/day across a Monday–Friday, 8am–4pm service, the numbers below give Krema a fully-costed, ready-to-present solution for the RBA conversation — including the option to scale from one barista to two, so the staffing model can be sized to the Centre's real cadence of conferences and quiet weeks.

Needs Analysis

What we heard

Current State
Our Solution
01
Krema's automatic machines cover everyday convenience, but there's no barista-crafted option for conference days and VIP visits
A staffed specialty bar that sits alongside Krema's machines — automatic for volume, barista-made for the moments that call for it
02
Demand swings hard between a full conference calendar and quiet weeks between training programs
A schedule builder priced day-by-day, with a single toggle to scale from one barista to two as the calendar demands
03
No live visibility of usage or cost across a mixed population of permanent staff and visiting delegates
A live dashboard giving full transparency on consumption, cost and service levels, day to day
04
The Centre regularly hosts government delegations and corporate guests who expect a standard to match the setting
Hospitality-trained baristas delivering a consistent, premium standard for every guest who sits down
05
Coffee as a new service line needs a transparent, fully costed model before Krema can take it to the Bank
A fully itemised per-cup and per-day rate, proven across comparable premium sites
Why It Matters

A Detail That Signals Everything Else

For a venue built around hosting, coffee isn't a workplace perk — it's part of how the Centre presents itself to everyone who visits.

1st

First Impressions, Every Visit

Delegations and corporate guests form an impression within minutes of arrival. A barista-crafted coffee at reception or in the dining room sets the tone before the first meeting starts.

11

Conference Rooms Served

Across eleven conference and training rooms, a staffed bar gives event organisers a premium option to build into any program, without extra logistics on their end.

2x

Staffing that Scales

Toggle between a single barista and a two-barista model in the calculator below — sized to a heavy conference week or a quieter one, without renegotiating the deal.

100%

Wellbeing for the Permanent Team

The Bank's own staff at the Centre get the same standard every day — a proper coffee break built into a campus that's often a training posting away from their usual office.

Clarity, Connection and Culture in One Simple Dashboard

Culture infrastructure at the heart of Collins Street

JLL's headquarters at 101 Collins Street is one of Australia's most prestigious commercial addresses. When Workplace Experience Lead Shaun Rogers set out to create genuine connection in their hybrid-first environment, Coffee on Cue became the anchor. What started as a coffee service became a daily ritual and a measurable driver of connection, wellbeing, and office attendance.

A Monday problem turned into a culture catalyst

Monday attendance was hovering around 80 people in an office built for 300+. Leadership knew the answer wasn't policy, it was experience. The launch of Coffee on Cue in November 2024 became one of the most talked-about initiatives in recent company history.

Return on Investment

For the permanent team, the coffee pays for itself in productivity before lunch.

Every coffee break taken off-campus costs the Bank's own Kirribilli staff time. A barista on site removes the round trip. At scale, that's a material number — on top of the hospitality case for delegates and guests.
